I was born in 1964. For those of my generation, sewing machines... they certainly stir up nostalgia. My mother was skilled at sewing, and when I recall memories of her in her youth, the image of her back as she sat at the sewing machine immediately comes to mind. These sewing machine legs are cast iron, and judging by their appearance, the material is undoubtedly iron. I imagine sand molds were used; in any case, molten iron was poured into these molds at high temperatures, and sewing machine manufacturers of the era likely produced many such castings. In the Reiwa era, such old manufacturing processes are often deemed nonsensical. Yet, attempting to recreate this symmetrical sewing machine leg—with its elegant curves and intricate internal design—still requires relying on the same techniques and skills used back then. It ultimately brings us back to the truth: regardless of how times change, craftsmanship remains a profoundly labor-intensive endeavor.
