MANDALA S20
MANDALA – CORE: Core
Where the Void Begins to Breathe
The universe emerges not as an explosion, but as a quiet breath
In the depths of black, a quiet pressure breathes. It is the universe before it took shape, the tremor of an impulse that has not yet found words.
The vortices interfere with one another, creating a single field.
Though the center appears to be a core, it is actually empty. That emptiness is not a void. It is the place where everything is born.
The coppery hue that appears on the carved surface is a faint trace of the heat lingering within.
The layers of charred cedar mark the passage of time like geological strata.
Deep within the silence, an invisible universe is slowly expanding.
This work does not depict the outside world.
It is the manifestation of an unidentifiable pressure existing within the artist—a tremor that has taken the form of undulating waves.
The sky remains the sky, the vortex remains the vortex…
And yet, the universe continues to be born from here.
Artist Statement
Kuwai Hana / UNDULATION
UNDULATION is an impulse.
It has no reason. It cannot be explained.
It simply accumulates within, and at a certain moment, emerges as pressure.
That pressure pushes out a form, shakes the space, and eventually gives rise to a cosmic-like undulation.
The vortex that appears in my work is not a landscape.
It is a record of the process by which an internal impulse expands into the sky.
At the center lies not a nucleus, but emptiness. Yet that emptiness is not nothingness.
From there, the universe begins to breathe quietly.
